Reading 3

When we started a community library through the support of #MrsKotecha, this is exactly what we had in mind, children everywhere falling in love with reading story books, so children community library was an opportunity. This is because, according to Uwezo, 7 of every 10 children in Uganda cannot read and comprehend. We believe we can make a difference today and help children in Uganda fall in love with reading, this started happening through creating reading spaces for children.

A year ago, a 10-year-old young girl #Millie from the United Kingdom was inspired by our children reading campaigns and she has started a fundraiser in which to mobilize her people and well-wishers she was able to raise for us #100 story books for our children. #Recap yesterday the reading camp came to an end we hosted 152 children for two days, I want to take this opportunity to thank partners for making this possible #JivtibaFoundation #RaisingTeenagersUganda Hope Nankunda #AuntieJovitaChildrenFoundation #ScriptureUnionUganda #BookAidInternational  #OldBooksForNewEyes #ShreeSthanakvasiJainSangh #UgandaChildrenWritersIllustratorsAssociation #NationalLibraryOfUganda #KigandaKyangeJovanArtist

Reading 2

The Children Reading Camp Concept, We believe that if we can help children to learn reading and words, their meanings and how to use them in sentences, then they will be able to understand concepts better and therefore pass standardized exams and be able to stay in school longer.

Our desire is to create a learning environment for our children as well as give them an opportunity to dream.

We do this through providing them with reading spaces that have our set of fully illustrated positive reading, around the values of Character, Responsibility, Excellence, Empathy Discipline and Leadership.

We believe that words change the world, and through an exposure to reading, they will be able to increase their reading skills on one hand, while on the other hand, the words will enable them develop a positive attitude towards life, that they will need as they grow.

Thank you to our partners for making the Children Reading Camp a success

Reading

For the last 5 years, we have grown in breadth, going from a pilot of 5 schools in 2018, altogether, having reached more than 10 schools and impacting well over 1000 children across different communities and primary schools in Kampala. In these years and with this growth we have learnt so much, gained a fair understanding of what the main challenges are.

We have created interventions to respond to some of these challenges, Like creating partnership with authors of children’s books, improving children’s libraries, organizing book week in schools and creating reading spaces, Children Reachout Uganda continues to grow and this creates demand for expansion to more communities and schools.

We shall continue in  investing more in improving children’s libraries, creating reading spaces and partnerships with other like-minded organizations

We shall also continue our campaign and efforts to get more books into the hands of Ugandan children, helping them to learn to read so they can read to learn.

None of this would be possible without our incredible community of friends and partners

Children Reading Camp

READING CAMP – Read to Lead
We believe that children can only reach their full potential if they learn how to read and comprehend what they read. In order to succeed in life, every child should ideally finish school with a lifelong love of reading and the necessary literacy skills. We implement this through our major programs, Reading Camps, School Book Week and other Reading Initiatives.

Nutrition Program

We started this Nutrition Program after noticing that many children were coming to our centers Hungry because they had not had Breakfast or had to walked a distance to the center and needed more sustenance to keep them going throughout the day. The Nutrition Program has proved hugely popular and effective with many children turning up for after school catch up classes for reading, writing, counting, speaking and computer skills. Today we had a surprise visit from one of our partners #AparFoundation who brought breakfast for 220 children. #Milk #Bread #QueenCake
